Elite Collegiate NCAA Champion Fencer Thanks Us For His Care

I wanted to post this note I received from one of my patients, with his permission. It made my day!

Dr. Diao,

I am writing to thank you and your team for the expert skill and extra care in repairing my twice fractured index finger several years ago, and to provide you with an update on my fencing adventures. As you’ll recall, you rebuilt my fencing hand ~3 years ago during the same month that I was being recruited onto Stanford’s fencing team. This was a very crucial time for my fencing future and I greatly appreciate your meticulous care to ensure the success of my surgery. Considering that the tip of a fencing blade is the second fastest-moving object in Olympic sports, behind the bullet, it was imperative that my hand regain its dexterity, stamina and strength.

Thanks to your work, I’ve recovered and am better than ever. In early March I won the Western Regional Championship (as pictured) and in this weekend’s NCAA fencing National Championship, I received All American honors as a top-10 finisher. Of course, I’d have preferred to be in the final four with TV interviews on ESPN, so there’s still work to do!

Again, thank you so much for your expert care.

Yours sincerely,

Lucas Orts
